Innovative and Unique “Flourish” Memory Care Program Introduced to Davison with Acquisition of Local Senior Living Community

Davison, Mich. – Charter Senior Living, one of the nation’s leading senior living management firms, has launched Flourish℠ Memory Care in Davison, Mich. Charter Senior Living’s exclusive Flourish℠ Memory Care Program addresses the unique needs of residents living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias while providing them with helpful support, loving care and personalized programming that honors who they are and where they are in their journeys.

The launch of this unique new memory care program comes as Charter Senior Living has been selected as the new management team of Hampton Manor of Davison. The community will be renamed Charter Senior Living of Davison.  This is Charter Senior Living’s introduction into Michigan with this assisted living and memory care community joining the Charter family.

Flourish℠ is a program of living, rather than a standard set of activities. This memory care program is individually designed for each resident and their abilities, likes, and favorite topics, whether it’s personal care, eating, dressing, or watching TV. This innovative program, designed to provide a safe and nurturing environment where seniors living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia can flourish and share a positive life experience, has been offered exclusively at Charter Senior Living communities since 2017.

“Flourish is rooted in the belief, and supported by leading-edge research, that people living with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and memory loss can grow and flourish, regardless of where they may be on their journey,” said Keven J. Bennema, CEO of Charter Senior Living. “The philosophy of this unique care program, that is exclusive to Charter, promotes the self-worth and familiar life history and functions of each resident, individually.”

The main concepts of Flourish℠ are:

Appropriate Activities: Activities are a fundamental component of the daily programs at Charter’s Memory Care communities. However, the activities that are featured for residents with dementia are significantly more familiar. Activities are not only “age-appropriate” but they are also simple and routine. Specially developed group activities such as the Charter-exclusive “Grab and Go” help caregivers connect with residents and engage in unplanned, yet purposeful – and successful – activities. Furthermore, communities embrace intergenerational programs, visiting pets, and sensory stimulation, among many others. Specialized, interactive therapeutic selections encourage solace, relaxation, rest, and reflection to maintain a calm, supportive environment for our residents.

Communication: Communications for Memory Care residents are two-fold at Charter Davison. First, we communicate through our quarterly Care Conferences to review and update the Service/Care Plan of each resident. This is done with the management, support staff and resident family, and/or responsible party. Finally, we communicate with residents through respectful and slow encouragements, without quick questioning or confusing dialogue. Close resident-caregiver-family relationships build familiarity and trust while empowering residents to remain active, connected, and fulfilled. The STAR – Specific Therapeutic Assisted Recreation – program, unique to Charter, further enhances positive interaction and relationship building during family visits.

Dining Services

Charter Davison features an Activity Kitchen for the familiarity of a kitchen in the house. Residents may work, complete chores, and prepare dishes, with unobtrusive supervision and support. Mealtime menus are enhanced in the community by services such as oshibori, the Japanese pre-meal tradition using warm towels infused with essential oils to freshen hands and prepare residents for the sensory experience of dining.

Comfortable Surroundings: Charter Davison is a comfortable, yet stimulating environment. Every detail from paint colors, furniture selection, to the carpet and artwork has been taken into consideration. The outdoor common areas are available to residents seeking fresh air, the warmth of sunshine, and the sounds of leaves and birds. The interiors feature a television lounge in each neighborhood and barrier-free walking.

Rest & Restoration: Personalized, technological interventions – such as nostalgic music on headphones and tablets showing non-plot videos – help manage challenging behaviors while promoting solace, relaxation, and reflection to maintain a calm, supportive environment.

“We are excited to launch this memory care program Charter has brought to Davison,” said Marissa Brasfield of Charter Senior Living of Davison. “This innovative and unique program is a holistic approach to memory care that has been missing in the Davison community. With many programs that create a calm and positive environment, foster a sense of community and mentally stimulate residents, this program is the catalyst of the best solutions to the memory care needs of our community.”

Charter Senior Living of Davison, which opened in 2017, is an assisted living and memory care community with 56 private apartments in three sizes. With Charter Davison joining the Charter family, it grows the Charter portfolio to 12 senior living communities across eight states, with an additional four communities in development.
